Abhyanga, which translates to "oil massage” is a form of Ayurvedic medicine that involves self-massaging warm oil all over your body, from head to toe, for overall health and well-being. It is actually believed that the effects of having a consistent Abhyanga practice are similar to the experience of being loved because the practice is grounding, healing, warm, and provides you with a sense of stability. Besides this, there are a whole host of health & beauty benefits, including:
- Softer, smoother skin
- Lubricates the joints
- Reduces anxiety and depression
- Enhances the complexion
- Increases Energy
- Assists in detoxification in the body
- Reduces cellulite and stretch marks
- Stimulates hair growth
- Decreases insomnia
- Increases muscle tone
Step 1: Choose Your Oil
The first step of Abhyanga is to choose a nourishing body oil for your practice. Our body oils are rich with organic, natural ingredients and therapeutic-grade oils, known to help reduce the appearance of cellulite, stretch marks, scars and skin damage, while brightening and firming skin for an even, smooth, all over glow. We recommend the Goddess Shaping Body Oil , Aphrodisiac Glow Body Oil or Heal All Oil. Read the descriptions below as each oil contains different benefits and target concerns.
Goddess Shaping Body Oil: A high vibrational, aromatic, full body nectar composed to prevent and correct the appearance of stretch marks and cellulite. Stimulates circulation to aid in proper metabolic function, detoxifying both the physical & mental body, strengthening the skin and relieving mental fatigue and emotional stresses caused from lack of self-love. This is your spirit + body armor to protect you throughout your day. Unveiling firm, toned, smooth, skin.
Aphrodisiac Glow Body Oil: A high vibrational, synergistic blend of intoxicating oils that will leave your skin soft, smooth, and radiant. Making your essence simply irresistible. Boosting your confidence, balancing your hormones and triggering your own organic sensual desires. This is by far the most pleasing and arousing scents of all. Everyone that gets a hint of this blend, instantly becomes enticed. The powerful plant botanicals are naturally healing and encourage cell regeneration to give your skin a youthful Golden Glow.
Heal All Oil: This secret oil originates from Polynesia, where it has been used for centuries for its anti-aging, beauty, and healing benefits. Investigated to show cell proliferation, wound healing and an increase of collagen production by 10-40%. Regenerates and repairs skin, nails, hair, lips, cuts, scrapes, burns, stings, acne, scars, stretch marks, dry or scaly skin, blisters, diaper rash, eczema, sore joints, neuralgia, sciatica and rheumatism. Valued for its pain-relieving and anti-cancer properties and its ability to counteract damage and oxidative stress caused by over exposure to damaging UV rays.
Step 2: Quiet The Mind
I recommend Abhyanga be part of your weekly rituals, because like everything, consistency brings results. Before you begin your Ayurvedic self-massage, take a moment to get present with yourself and find awareness in your breath, your body, and really pay attention to each and every stroke. Like I always say, “where attention goes, energy flows” and that couldn’t be more true for this self-massage. The more attention, love and awareness you deliver with each stroke, the more effective the practice is.
Step 3: The Ritual
The difference between ritual and routine is that a ritual is a mindful practice, where you tune in and listen to what your body needs. Routine is a mindless act that you do despite your bodies needs. So once you have checked in with yourself, take whichever oil you need for that day and begin by massaging it in to your skin starting at the very top of your body with your forehead, temples, cheeks, jaw and even your ears and earlobes. These strokes should be done in an upward circular motion. You can use long strokes when you get to the arms and legs, and circular strokes on the elbow and knees massaging in the direction of the heart. For the abdomen and chest, you can massage in clockwise circular strokes. Lastly, don’t forget your feet - this is how you’ll end your ritual. Once you have lathered your entire body in oil, we recommend allowing 10 minutes or so for the oil to absorb and penetrate into the deeper levels of your skin, this will help you achieve the best results and get the most out of your practice.
Body Gua Sha Option
We also have a Sculpting Stone Body Gua Sha Tool that you can use as part of your self-massage ritual. This tool goes beyond what the hands alone are capable of. It creates therapeutic Far infra-Red (FIR) waves and therapeutic ultrasound. Its unrivaled value has around 3700 in generated ultrasonic pulses compared to other popular stones such as Jade stone at around 1843. The friction between The Sculpting Stone and your skin produces these healing ultrasonic pulses, improving microcirculation as well as overall metabolism. Think of it as an eraser that smoothes out cellulite and stretch marks and tones your body. With each purchase you receive a 40+ page ebook that includes every detail you need to know + 2 guided video tutorials!
